What Is The ISU Hort Club?

The ISU Horticulture Club (Hort Club) is the oldest and one of the most active student organizations in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Since our founding in 1900, our mission has been to provide fun and educational opportunities for all students with a passion for horticulture. If you are interested in plants or just want to try something new, we have lots of fun and exciting ways for you to get involved!

Our club fosters a fun, friendly environment for meeting fellow students and other plant enthusiasts. Our events range from biweekly meetings, to monthly socials, and even week-long trips. We have tons of fun on our outings, and many of our events include free food! To be a part of the Hort Club, all you need is a willingness to participate; no horticulture experience is required.

General meetings are biweekly, but club activities are always going on! At meetings we bring in guest speakers, host workshops, or serve food and socialize, and discuss club business. We do not ask students to pay dues, but we require attendance of at least ½ of the meetings, and 8 hours of participation in club activities per semester to be considered an active member.

What do you love most about ISU Hort Club:
The ISU Horticulture Club combines academic knowledge with practical hands on growing and learning to assist members adds to their resume of activities.  The club networks with other clubs and organizations and provides a means of “having fun” with plants and activities.  The club also gives back to the community by way of educating other groups in the city of Ames, such as elementary schools, Master Gardener groups, and other such civic organizations.
